AYS Receives Grant to Better Serve Children with Special Needs
AYS received a $10,000 grant from Noblesville Community Fund, a fund of Legacy Fund, a CICF affiliate. The grant will allow AYS to provide a special needs assistant at its Noblesville after-school and early childhood programs that have a high concentration of children with physical or behavioral issues, as well as related training for staff and sensory and motor-skills development equipment. The funding will be used through the rest of the school year and during the AYS summer day camps. Approximately 20% of the children served by AYS have some type of special need such as allergies, asthma, ADHD, oppositional defiant disorder, autism and physical disabilities. Intake of children with any type of special need is handled by the program site director and AYS� nurse consultant. �AYS strives to give meaningful experiences to as many children as possible and with this additional support we can better serve our population,� said AYS Nurse Consultant Jill Taylor RN. �We are also careful to meet all regulations set by the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Broncos, Easts join forces
QUEENSLAND Cup club Easts Tigers has joined forces with the Brisbane Broncos in a new three-year affiliate club arrangement. The agreement will give a direct pathway to the NRL for young Tiger talent while also immediately providing two young men with a taste of life in the NRL. Tigers players Trent Young and Luke Archer have already started pre-season training with the Broncos senior squad, and will continue through until the NRL competition begins. The pair - along with any other Easts player who catches the eye of the Broncos coaching staff during the season - will be dually-registered with both the Tigers and Broncos, making them eligible for both the NRL and Queensland Cup. In a further boost to the program, Bronco top-liners Tonie Carroll and Darius Boyd will be listed as affiliate players with the Tigers.
Admirals notebook: Mississippi's leading scorer gets call-up
The Norfolk Admirals signed left wing Mark Rooneem from their ECHL affiliate in Mississippi in hopes of more scoring punch. Rooneem, who participated in Norfolk's training camp earlier this fall, was leading the Sea Wolves in scoring with five points after seven games. He is expected to be available tonight when the Admirals begin the first of a two-game set with Hershey at 7:15 at Scope. The Admirals will also have the services of Tampa Bay Lightning center Ryan Craig, who has been assigned to Norfolk on a brief conditioning stint. Craig practice d with the Admirals on Tuesday. Goalie's numbers superb Norfolk's offensive struggles have masked the strong play of goalie Jonathan Boutin, who leads the AHL in save percentage (.950) and ranks second in the league in goals-against average (1.76).

Kip Chase, a Wabash grad now working for Eli Lilly in Indianapolis, keeps me updated on sports and politics via e-mail and occasional phone calls. "I'm in the IU Kelley School of Business MBA-Thunderbird Master of Global Management Dual-Degree program," he explained recently. "The program started in July with two weeks of intensive class-room training in Bloomington. It lasts 28 months and includes four different in-class room settings — one in Bloomington, two in Phoenix where Thunderbird is located, and one in Beijing." Kip explained online education is increasingly popular at IU, Duke, Northwestern and Purdue. His career goal is to manage a Lilly affiliate outside of the U.S, He's already visited Australia and plans to travel to Mexico City soon.
Jackals Partner with Columbus Blue Jackets
It came fast and furious, and could turn Jackals training camp into one of the toughest in the ECHL. Today, Elmira became the new ECHL affiliate for the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets and AHL's Syracuse Crunch. This is the same affiliation Elmira had several seasons ago in the UHL, but that one was more in title only. Already, three players have been shipped down the pipeline for Jackals training camp: goalie Dan LaCosta, and defensemen John Landry and Trevor Hendrikx. LaCosta was the Blue Jackets third round pick in 2004. The wheels started in motion at a rookie camp in Ottawa, when Syracuse approached Jackals Head Coach Steve Martinson about the possibility. Today, the deal became official, vaulting Elmira into the upper echelon of ECHL clubs. Jackals training camp will start 15 minutes early Friday, due to the sudden over-crowding at nearly every position. The team hits the ice at 9:45am.
