Mold: Can It Make You Sick?
The Meniketti's of Livermore seem like a typical suburban family. Mom and dad and the boys go to their mailbox every day, but they're actually living in a nearby hotel. They say they can't go in their house -- that something inside was nearly killing them. Donelle Meniketti says, "All of us had been sick, we didn't know exactly what was going on, I didn't have any feeling in these six fingers, I was having a lot of trouble with dizziness." All four mysteriously fell ill a couple of years ago. Ten year old Kyle was hospitalized for a month. "He was in two of the top medical teaching hospitals and he had over 40 doctors and nobody could diagnose it," says Donelle. 41-year-old Keith Meniketti says he suffered memory loss and other problems so severe that he lost his job.
Manila Water seeks tariff hike starting 2008
The Manila Water Co. (MWC) is seeking a tariff rate hike of P34 per cubic meter starting next year. The present rate is P20.54 per cubic meter. The tariff rate hike will be deliberated upon by the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), the regulatory body overseeing the east and west zones of the metropolis. Manila Water is the east zone concessionaire while the former Maynilad Water Corp. used to be the west zone concessionaire. MWSS Regulatory Office officer-in-charge Alberto Agra said that the decision on the rate hike will be issued between Dec. 10 to 16 this year. If the petition is granted, consumption for household consumers in the average 10 cu m consumption category or P79 per cu m, will increase to P116 per cu m, or a P1.20 per day increase.
Seven killed in South Korea blaze
Officials say the rescue operation has been slowed down as emergency crews try to deal with thick, toxic smoke. The cause of the fire is not yet known, but witnesses reported hearing explosions coming from the basement. A local restaurateur told Korea's Yonhap new agency: "There were loud bangs, flames shot up and one seriously burned woman ran into my restaurant crying for help." Icheon's fire department expressed concern that the death toll could rise. "Additional bodies could be found as we continue the rescue operation," official Jin Sung-hun told the Associated Press. Another department official told AFP news agency 21 workers had managed to escape from the warehouse when the fire broke out. "An initial report says 56 people were working at the time of fire, and 35 of them failed to escape it," he said.

Fog lifts, warm weather persists for another day
Metro Detroiters will be relieved to know the patchy fog will be gone before noon today. Although the National Weather Service has predicted constant rain, it will feel a little like spring, with temperatures hitting 60 degrees. The low for tonight is forecast at 49. Tomorrow the heavy rain will continue through the day with highs reaching 56 degrees. Tuesday night will start to feel a little like winter again with lows around 36 degrees, and rain and snow. .
